This was in today’s Inside Indiana Business Email:
Inside Indiana Business and the Indiana Humanities Council launched a new partnership in 2006 to increase a shared understanding among Indiana leaders about how to position Indiana for global success. We share a belief that every region in Indiana can create strategies to compete in a changing global economy. By taking a regional economic development approach and collecting and openly sharing regional information, we work to support the transformation of Indiana’s economy.
While I am not sure exactly what they plan on doing, any movement in this area is a move forward for Indiana!

Reliance Technology Group of Indianapolis announced today an expansion of their offering to include temporary office space for small business owners. While on the surface, a technology company offering office space seems to be an unusual fit, Reliance founder Kevin Vanover sees this as an expansion of their core service, helping businesses operate more productively.

Indiana’s venture capital investment tax credit is being tapped by entrepreneurial companies in search of capital from angel investors and venture capital funds. In 2006, about 160 investors used the program for their investments in Indiana companies, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said today. The program approved nearly 50 high-growth companies in 2006. These companies plan to raise about $50 million in outside capital over the next one to two years, which would generate $10 million in tax credits for their investors. Indiana shares in the investment risk by pre-qualifying high-growth companies and providing a 20-percent tax credit to encourage investors.
It is exciting to see more and more of this type of activity locally.

The Haelan Group, a frequently cited success story in Indianapolis’ life sciences development efforts, has sold itself to a Florida company. CareGuide of Coral Springs will pay $8 million in cash and debt and could pay up to $3 million more if Haelen meets certain revenue targets next year. CareGuide, a disease and care management firm, wanted Haelen’s One Care Street product, which tries to identify high-risk employees before they require expensive medical care.
While I am pleased that another local company has created value worth buying, I am sorry to see another local business go!

I am a networking junkie. And unlike people with other addictions, I am not looking for a cure for my addiction, because I think it is healthy to get my business buzz from networking. For a small business owner with a limited budget, it is a powerful way to build your brand.
One of my favorite networking groups; Rainmakers, Indy’s fastest growing business network is expanding once again. This Friday, one of their most popular AM groups, the Central will meet at the Cinema Grill at 86th and Ditch from 7:30am-9:00am.
If you have never experienced a Rainmaker event, this is a great event to start with!
