(INDIANAPOLIS)—Networking opportunities have abounded for small business professionals around Indianapolis, but have been sorely lacking for medium and large businesses, until now.
Confluence, a new networking organization, has been formed to create networking opportunities for professionals in larger organizations around Central Indiana.
“Many networkers end up running in the same circles,” said Brett Healey, founder of Confluence and vice president of sales and marketing for FP Services, Inc. “We want to reach out to people who don’t attend networking events, especially those people in larger companies. Our goal is to bring people in from a variety of backgrounds and jobs.”
Confluence hosts a monthly networking event and one-hour workshop on a different topic, on the second Tuesday of every month. Past topics have included Web 2.0 trends, women in business, becoming an employer of choice, and the power of personal networking.
Scott Abbott will be addressing the membership at its next event as the keynote speaker. Scott has started companies, bought companies, managed companies, and worked with thousands of people, and hundreds of small, midsize and Fortune 1000 organizations, including IBM, Microsoft, GE, Apple, P&G, McDonalds, Aon, Oracle, HP, Eli Lilly & Harley Davidson.
The next Confluence event is Tuesday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus, 2100 East 71st St.
Some people have used Confluence as an opportunity to network for a new position, including an ad agency traffic manager and a warehouse manager. Past attendees made an effort to find others who could help the job seekers make connections to help them. The attendees were given names of potential employers, as well as people who were well-connected in their industries.
“Confluence was originally a one-time event we held in July,” said Healey. “But we received such great feedback from the attendees that we turned it into a monthly event.”
