CARMEL, IN - The Carmel Clay Public Library will broadcast the Inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama on Tuesday, January 20 in the program room. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a presentation by Roger Hardig, Education Director of the President Benjamin Harrison Home. At 10:00 a.m., enjoy all the Inauguration Day festivities on the big screen. Light refreshments will be served and attendees may come in at any time during the event.
Mr. Hardig’s program, A Look at Presidential Inaugurations, will discuss the similarities and differences between the inauguration of our first president George Washington in 1789, and that of Barack Obama in 2009. Mr. Hardig will provide a historic perspective on inaugurations, including interesting stories and little known facts that laid the foundation for our current inauguration. There will be time for questions after the presentation.
Inaugural festivities will include:
- Music by the United States Marine Band
- Invocation by Dr. Rick Warren
- Swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Barack Obama
- Departure ceremony to honor President George W. Bush
- 56th Inaugural Parade
The library is located at 55 Fourth Avenue SE, across Main Street from Carmel High School.
