Aging Avenues now helps families dealing with difficult elder care issues with a new Helping Hands Senior Assessment and Referral program. The Founder of Aging Avenues, Carlotta Katra is a veteran of the assisted living and nursing home industry. Helping Hands assists families navigate the confusing maze of elder care options and how to pay for needed care. Often families need an objective assessment of the seniors current situation and help developing the best plan of action.
By next year, it is estimated that more than 40 million adults will be over the age of 65. Today one out of every six people are caring for an aging loved one while also working and caring for their own family. “Eventually, this issue affects everyone,” Katra said. One solution to this growing problem is education, Katra says. “In early 2008, I launched AgingAvenues.com, to help families learn about elder care issues. This website is a one-stop resource that answers questions such as the difference between Medicare and Medicaid, how to determine when a loved one is no longer safe living at home, and the various care options available. It also lists Indianapolis Metro Area community resources and offers a comprehensive senior service directory.”
The response to the website has been exciting, but in some ways, it has prompted more questions. That’s why Katra introduced the new human element to Aging Avenues called the Helping Hands program. Helping Hands offers a valuable component to elder care: getting all in the family to agree.
“Sometimes the children of aging parents need help getting their mother or father to acknowledge the need for help or getting siblings to agree on the same course of action,” Katra said. “Helping Hands conducts a complete analysis of the situation including the problem, possible solutions, and an overview of legal and financial issues, services that can help and how to pay for care. Financial healthcare planning is an essential part of this.
Veteran’s have a little know lifetime benefit to help pay for care called Aid and Attendance and we help people qualify for this program. We can also assist in selecting the best living arrangements from home care to assisted living to nursing homes.”
This is a very emotional time in a family’s life and most decisions come when a crisis occurs. Helping Hands can give families peace of mind that they made the right decisions for their loved ones. For more information contact Aging Avenues at 317-731-3315 or info@agingavenues.com.
