CARMEL, Ind. - The City of Carmel will be holding a Memorial Day Ceremony to remember those who have served our country. The public is welcome to attend.
When: Friday, May 22nd at 9 a.m.
Where: Carmel Clay Veterans Memorial Plaza located near the SW corner of Third Ave. SW and City Center Drive in City Center
Rain Location: Carmel Fire Headquarters at 2 Civic Square in Carmel
Who: The ceremony includes remarks by Mayor Jim Brainard and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Carmel Clay Township Trustee Doug Callahan. The keynote speaker will be Andrew Gothreau a retired U.S. Army Colonel and graduate of West Point with 28 years of active duty.
Teams of students from Carmel’s middle schools and high school will participate in a flag raising ceremony and place flowers at the Memorial to commemorate all military veterans. Patriotic music at the ceremony will be provided by Carmel Elementary music teacher, Cynthia Ensign Baney. Also attending the ceremony will be members of the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts.
Background: “Memorial Day is a special day when we honor all those brave military personnel who have served and sacrificed, and thank them for all they have given us,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
