Saturday, May 30th was a record-setting opening day for the Carmel Farmers Market with approximately 2,800 attendees. In its 11th season, the Carmel Farmer’s Market has a total of 51 vendors selling local goods. Four vendors were unable to attend this weekend because of the delayed planting season due to the rainy spring.
The market is held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the south parking lot of City Hall every Saturday from the last Saturday in May through the last Saturday in September. Vendors offer an assortment of homegrown fruits and vegetables, dried and fresh herbs and spices, flowers, baked goods, meats and poultry, honey, eggs, and plants. A requirement of at least 50% of the products sold at the market must be grown and/or produced by the Indiana resident vendor. Farmers Market volunteers inspect local vendors prior to and during the season to make sure they are in compliance with market standards.
Upcoming events include the annual Veggie Art Contest and the Carmel Fire Department’s Firehouse Cook-Off. Aside from food and shopping, enjoy a variety of live entertainment featuring local musicians for all tastes from island music to rock and country. Local sponsors this year include Clarian North Medical Center, Tutwiler Cadillac, Abuelos, Brenwick Development/Village of West Clay, The National Bank of Indianapolis, City of Carmel, Tech Solutions and Sales, Omni Productions and Irwin Computer Services.
Voted best Farmers Market in Indy by Indianapolis Monthly magazine, Carmel Farmers Market is the place to be on Saturday mornings!
