Smaller Indiana Celebrates 7,000 Member Milestone
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) – Smaller Indiana, www.SmallerIndiana.com marked an important milestone earlier this month as its membership passed 7,000 members. To celebrate, Smaller Indiana will host an informal event at the Rathskeller (401 E. Michigan Street) on Thursday, September 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
.
Founded in December of 2007, Smaller Indiana is an online community established to harness social networks to strengthen Indiana’s real life community, culture and commerce. It started with an E mail invitation to 50 people and quickly went viral through word-of-mouth.
.
“We have come a long way,” said Pat Coyle, founder of Smaller Indiana. “As a 7,000 member community, we are now beginning to have an impact on business, politics, and the arts. More people are taking notice and joining our community.”
.
Despite its steady growth, Smaller Indiana has maintained its personal feel through special interest groups and off-line events. “Smoosiers” – Smaller Indiana Hoosiers – can find like-minded individuals who share their interest in civics, philanthropy, arts, politics, literature, theater, technology, food, economics, and much more. Today the site includes more than 500 different special-interest groups. Off-line events include: the Smaller Indiana Bigger Ideas Conference, the Smoosier Healthcare Debate, as well as involvement in IndyFringe.
.
“In addition to on-line connections, and the off-line events, many of the small groups host face-to-face events, where members can strengthen the relationships they have built on line,” said Coyle. “The 7,000 member celebration is just one more opportunity to bring people together.”
.
There is no fee to attend the event, but registrations are requested. To register for the event or for more information visit: http://www.smallerindiana.com/events/smaller-indiana-7000-member
