(Edinburgh, IN) – Banks Machine & Engineering, Inc. has received a $630,000 contract from Xwind LLC. (Indianapolis) to supply structural frame assemblies for the latest in small aircraft flight simulators. Xwind has developed a revolutionary product to aid in the training of student pilots by providing multi-axis motion to simulate actual aircraft movement and at a price colleges, universities, and trade schools can afford.
The contract issued by Xwind completed a search for a qualified supplier that came down to two potential vendors with Banks winning the bid and bringing the business to Indiana from the current supplier located in Texas. According to Xwind’s President, Brad Whitsitt, “Banks provided the quality assurance programs, capability, and delivery required to meet the growing demands of our products.”
Xwind’s advanced use of an array of LCD panels in the cockpit along with proprietary software allows the simulator to emulate over 30 different types of aircraft. “This flexibility along with our affordable price is lowering student’s cost of learning to fly by boosting flying and landing skills on the ground without risking airplanes and burning fuel. Students will fly entire missions on the ground before stepping into an airplane,” said Whitsitt.
Whitsitt went on to say “Although the contract with Banks is for a set number of frame units, we expect our relationship to go well beyond this initial purchase which will keep the manufacturing of our product within the state of Indiana.”
