The new product is ideally suited for individuals age 40 and older who have begun to experience diminished flexibility in their eyes making it more and more difficult to read fine print.
This condition, called presbyopia makes it increasingly difficult to focus on near objects. The new bifocal contact lenses work equally well for individuals who currently wear contact lenses for distance, as well as individuals who have never needed any type of vision correction.
“Patients who have never worn corrective lenses, are sometimes hesitant to try bifocal contact,” said Dr. Jeremy Ciano, of RevolutionEYES. Typically once they try them they are thrilled to leave their readers at home.
“A dark restaurant used to be romantic, but as my vision deteriorated, it just became annoying because I couldn’t read the menus,” said Lorraine Ball, patient of Dr. Ciano. ”With my new bifocal contacts I can once again enjoy life relatively free from glasses.”
RevolutionEYES is the first optometry practice in this area to offer the new lenses manufactured CIBA VISON, a subsidiary of Novartis. This lens won’t be available to most practices in the USA until early 2010.
