Smaller Indiana celebrates second anniversary with continued growth
(Indianapolis, IN December 2009) – Smaller Indiana (www.smallerindiana.com), the state’s most popular online community of innovators marks its two year anniversary this month. Founded in December of 2007, Smaller Indiana was established to harness social networks to help strengthen Indiana’s regional economy. The flourishing network started with an E mail invitation to 50 people and quickly went viral through word-of-mouth.
Just as Facebook and Twitter have recorded eye-popping growth on the national and international fronts, Smaller Indiana expanded its membership and its influence in 2009:
• Traffic to the website exceeded 640,000 visits in 2009. This is an 88% increase to compare to last year.
• As new content is generated, unique page views increase 39% in 2009 to a total of 2,724,463.
• Membership exceeds 7,600 individuals with new applicants daily.
• There over 600 special interests groups meeting the needs of small segments of the total membership.
• Smaller Indiana has established partnerships with several public and private entities including the Central Indiana Community Foundation, the Indianapolis Arts Council, the Meridian Institute and the Indiana Office of Tourism.
• While the majority of the visitors to SmallerIndiana.com are local, approximately 20% come from outside the U.S.
“We have come a long way in our first two years,” said Pat Coyle, founder of Smaller Indiana. “We started as an idea, and now we’re impacting business, politics, non-profit causes and the arts. Our members participate in the larger Indiana community using Smaller Indiana as connection point. Going forward we want to continue to connect Hoosiers, and help Indiana gain valuable exposure nationally and internationally.”
An offline celebration will be planned for early 2010 to commemorate the two year anniversary and the 8000 member milestone. To learn more about this event and Smaller Indiana visit www.smallerindiana.com; there is no fee to join the website.
