Downtown Indianapolis Family Medicine Practice Adds Primary Care and Sports Medicine Doctor to Accommodate Growth in Patient Volume
INDIANAPOLIS (December 21, 2009) – IU Family Medicine at OneAmerica Tower, a downtown Indianapolis family medicine practice, announces the addition of Tamika Dawson, M.D., to its medical staff. Dr. Dawson is the practice’s fifth board-certified primary care doctor, hired to help meet the needs of a growing number of residents and business professionals seeking access to convenient, high-quality medical care in downtown Indianapolis. In addition, Jeffrey A. Kons, M.D., has been named medical director. The practice is located in the OneAmerica Tower at the intersection of Illinois and Ohio streets and the doctors currently are accepting new patients. This is the only primary care practice affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine serving central downtown Indianapolis.
Dr. Dawson is an assistant professor of Clinical Family Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from IU School of Medicine where she also completed a residency in Family Medicine and a fellowship in sports medicine. An avid sports fan, Dr. Dawson specializes in sports medicine injury diagnosis and treatment. A veteran physician at IU Family Medicine, Dr. Kons is an assistant professor of Clinical Family Medicine at IU School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine and completed the IU Family Practice Residency Program. Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Kons’ medical interests include preventative health care, chronic disease management and maternity care.
“With nearly 150,000 people either living or working downtown, having convenient access to high quality medical attention is critical,” said Dr. Kons. “As more and more of these residents or professionals seek out access to care near where they spend the majority of their time, it became critical for us to add a fifth physician to help meet patient demand.”
