Art and Hospitality: Fused in Indianapolis
(Indianapolis, IN, February 15, 2010) – Indianapolis-based Q7 and Editions Limited Gallery will host an art opening experience on March 5th, 2010, at Alcove at the Conrad. This will coincide with the “First Friday” event, a city-wide initiative to highlight art galleries, museums and other venues.
The show will feature works by artist Carol Summers. Renowned for his vivid colors and revolutionary woodblock techniques, Summers’ work has been collected for decades. He has been featured in the Art Institute of Chicago, Biblioteque National – Paris, Corcoran Gallery of Art –Washington, Los Angeles County Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art – New York, The National Museum of Art – Washington and the Seattle Art Museum.
Aside from Summers’ work, this event will also showcase the philosophy of how art can be incorporated to enhance a hospitality experience. Editions Limited owner Chris Mallon and Q7 Creative Director GK Rowe worked as co-curators for the Conrad Indianapolis, creating a program for their event space Alcove. The team previously worked with Conrad management on art and design initiatives when the hotel first opened in 2006.
After the success of popular art hotel, 21C, Rowe and Mallon started researching the concept and put together curator programs for other hospitality groups. They developed an art program for The Intercontinental at Chicago O’Hare and were featured on The Today Show and popular publications like Forbes for their work. They hope to bring the concept to other Indianapolis area hotels, who want to make their guests’ stay more of an “experience.”
“Our objective is to enhance the art and design experience within specific industries; and the hospitality industry understands the need for marketing such experiences for their guests” said GK Rowe, partner of Q7, LLC, whose marketing and multimedia solutions company focuses on the niche of “experience design.”
All proceeds from this event (via cash bar, parking and a portion of any artwork sold) will benefit the organization Art for Beds. Art for Beds is an annual event that brings together artists from our community and businesses working together to raise funds in support of the health care provided by Gennesaret Free Clinics. Gennesaret Free Clinics provides vital health care services to homeless and working poor people in our community.
The event will be open to the public, but coordinators ask that guests RSVP by emailing art@editionsltd.com.
