(March 2010, Indianapolis) – The Indianapolis chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO-Indianapolis) is proud to announce that NAWBO has chosen Indianapolis to host its first-ever NAWBO Midwest Regional Leadership Summit. While in town, NAWBO’s national Board of Directors, including Indianapolis’ own, Billie Dragoo, will look at Indianapolis as a possible host of their National Convention in 2012 or 2013.
Although the actual Summit (March 25-27) is for NAWBO leadership from bordering states, NAWBO-Indy is incorporating its regularly scheduled Monthly Luncheon Meeting into the Summit’s agenda. The Monthly Luncheon Meeting is Thursday, March 25, at the Conrad Indianapolis from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public.
The luncheon includes keynote speaker, Deborah Collins Stephens, author of This is Not the Life I Ordered and four other bestselling books, including Maslow on Management named among the top 10 books of the decade by The Financial Times. Stephens is also co-founder of The Center for Innovative Leadership. Stephens and her family reside in Bloomington, Indiana. Prior to relocating to Indiana, she called San Francisco home for 28 years.
Remarks will be delivered from the President and CEO of NAWBO national, Helen Han. In addition, a discussion will be lead by representatives from the Summit’s sponsor, KeyBank, focusing on access to capital and women business owners. Everyone from Main Street to the White House is focused on the question “where will tomorrow’s jobs come from.” According to Guardian Life Small Business Research Institute, future job growth will be created primarily by women-owned small businesses. Guardian’s research shows that by 2018 women entrepreneurs will be responsible for creating between 5 million to 5.5 million new jobs nationwide. That is more than half of the 9.7 million new jobs the Bureau of Labor statistics expects small businesses to create.
Luncheon attendees will have the chance to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to network with women business owners from around the region, including members of the Chicago, Louisville and Columbus, Ohio chapters, in addition to NAWBO’s national Board members. And, as stated above, Indianapolis women business leaders will have an opportunity to showcase the city toward the possibility of hosting the NAWBO National Convention in 2012 or 2013.
