Startup Weekend, an intense 54-hour brainstorming and business-building event, will be held in Indianapolis April 8-10, hosted by the Purdue Research Park of Indianapolis. The event will take place in the Purdue Technology Center, 5225 Exploration Drive, Indianapolis.
2011 will mark the sixth Startup Weekend in Indianapolis. During Startup Weekends, a diverse group of developers, business managers, start up enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more gather to create and develop innovative new products, projects, and companies. Many times, a viable company emerges, including Pocket Tales, a company which turns reading books into an interactive game, Shoutnow.com an automated messaging system, statssquared.com a twitter analytic tool and eatdrink.it a restaurant rating tool.
“Although real businesses do emerge from Startup Weekend, it’s not a startup factory,” said Lorraine Ball, a member of the planning committee. “Startup Weekend is an entrepreneur factory that creates a self-sustaining entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The cost for the event is $65, including all meals for the 2 ½ day event. An early bird discount, reducing the fee to $50) is available until March . Students can receive discounted admission by contacting Lorraine Ball at Lorraine@roundpeg.biz or by calling 317-569-1396.

Start Up Weekend is still looking for sponsors. “The program relies on sponsors to subsidize the cost of the event,” said Ball. “Given the positive economic impact the new businesses offer the city, sponsorship is a win-win for all involved.”
About Startup Weekend: Startup Weekend recruits a highly motivated group of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more to a 54-hour event that builds communities, companies and projects. It is an amazing opportunity to connect with other passionate and skilled individuals, and perhaps even find a co-founder or two to turn ideas into reality.
