Girls Rock! Indianapolis (GRI) has announced its official camp dates for summer 2011. This year’s camp will take place Aug. 1- 5 at Park Tudor Middle School, 7200 N. College Ave. The end-of-camp showcase will take place on Aug. 6 at the Historic Athenuem, located at 401 E. Michigan St. Indianapolis IN.
The cost of the weeklong camp is $200 and is open to all girls ages 8-16. No musical experience is necessary. All those who apply will have to pay the $10 non-refundable application fee, but GRI cannot promise that all applicants will be awarded a spot in the 60-girl camp. Financial aid is available, and all girls are encouraged to apply.
“We’re extremely excited to begin receiving applications for this year’s rock camp,” Sharon Rickson, GRI President, said. “We’re especially happy that because last year’s camp was so successful, we’ll be able to offer rock camp services to 60 girls this year.”
Girls Rock! Indianapolis is a non-profit organization dedicated to building positive self-esteem in girls and encouraging creative expression through music. The music education program provides girls with the opportunity to participate in an environment that fosters leadership, encourages social change and cultivates a supportive community of female peers and mentors, all while learning to play the instrument of their choice, the art of forming a band and giving them the chance to play in front of a live audience of family, friends and community members.
