There is more to Indianapolis then just business. Today’s post by Michelle McNally is one of those looks at one of the things which makes Indy an enjoyable place to live and start a business.
Cinderella is being presented as the Family Show of Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre’s 38th season. This enchanting musical runs through July 1, 2011, with evening and matinee shows. The show is suitable for younger audience members (3 & over), and it is one the entire family will enjoy.
This interpretation of Cinderella is filled with laughs, and the stepfamily is comical, rather than mean. The ugly step sisters bring extra comedy into the mix in this production, for the roles of Portia and Joy are played by Jeff Stockberger and Doug King. By casting two men, the sisters step up the physical comedy, by towering over most of the other cast members.
Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre starts every performance with a delicious dinner buffet prepared by Chef Odell Ward. The menu varies, but roast beef prepared as well done and medium is the focal point of the meal. After dinner, the buffets are rolled away, and the stage is prepared for the show.
The sets for this production are enchanting, with a rotating set that takes the audience from Cinderella’s kitchen to the royal palace to the royal court yard with a large clock, whose minute hand inches closer and closer to midnight.
The fast-paced show easily keeps the attention of even its youngest audience members mesmerized. A few surprises, including Cinderella’s carraige being wheeled on stage complete with graceful dancing horses, and the Godmother’s surprise descent during the finale make this a show the audience won’t soon forget.
The show runs through July 1, 2011. Tickets are available by calling the Box Office at 317.872.9664 between 10 a.m. & 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays. Tickets range from $36-$59 with a special $10 discount on tickets for kids ages 3-15. Ticket price includes Chef Odell Ward’s family-friendly dinner buffet, fruit & salad bar, coffee, tea & lemonade. Discounts also available for groups of 20 or more.
