INDIANAPOLIS – Fans are packing the house at monthly Sparks events. The surge in popularity and attendance has compelled founder Chris Reed to move the popular event to a new day, time and venue. Starting September 9, 2015 Sparks will be held the second Tuesday of every month at 5:15 p.m. at Morty’s Comedy Joint at 3625 E. 96th St. The move provides more space and expansion opportunities for Sparks.
The unique Sparks program provides an innovative networking environment. It includes a short period for attendees to mingle, three timed TED-like talks to inspire, and then some time for conversation and thoughts about the talks. Because the atmosphere is centered on the talks, the stress is reduced for reluctant networkers. There is a common experience to talk about, which makes for an easy and comfortable segue into the usual networking discussions. Even though the event officially ends about 45 minutes after the last talk, it is common for people to hang around in groups and talk for several hours.
Several months ago, Reed outlined for his fans the vision he had for Sparks, which is now coming into reality. The move to Morty’s Comedy Joint is the result of the growth the event has experienced. “We were hitting capacity issues at the Moon Dog Tavern and it was becoming increasingly difficult to have conversations. We were thrilled with the idea of moving to Morty’s Comedy Joint. Additionally, as we expand, the owners are working with us as they own clubs in Louisville and Dayton, Ohio, too.”
Working together also appealed to Morty’s Comedy Joint co-owner, Chris Bowers. He said, “We are excited about Sparks moving to Morty’s comedy Joint. The mix of inspiration, humor and learning is something that has made an impact in my life.”
On August 1, 2015 Sparks opened a membership offering to its many fans. Within days, more than 90 fans registered as founding members. Anyone can become a Sparks member at https://sparkstalk.com/membership/. The unique program has struck a nerve in Indianapolis with business owners and professionals as THE PLACE to learn, connect and get to know other like-minded people every month. The cost is free for Sparks members, $16 at the door and $12 for pre-registered non-members. Register at http://sparkstalk.com/sparks_registration/.
Other membership benefits include perks such as discounts from area merchants, the ability to stream events live virtually from anywhere and special Member Mingles. Additional monthly Sparks events are scheduled to begin before the end of 2015 and expansion into Kentucky and Ohio is being explored for 2016.
