Mayor Ballard to Focus on MBO and WBO Opportunities

Published by admin under Small Business, Women in Business

In a presentation to agroup at the Black Expo, Mayor Ballard announced his administration is overhauling the way Indianapolis tracks and awards contracts with minority- and women-owned businesses after finding the city’s program in disarray and falling short of goals.

I hope we can simplify the system.  As a WBO, I was completely turned off by the cumbersome documentation process, which might result in a lot of time spent with no real benefit.

Often the bids do not really support WBO or MBO’s at all.  In one instance, I could get points if I was a sub contractor to a male owned company.  But there were not points available if I wanted to be the primary contractor on a project.

I hope some of those inconsitencies can be corrected.
